Ridging

On reaching the apex of the roof, with both sides thatched, the ridge is formed either by butting up material on both sides (known as a butts-up ridge) or by wrapping the ridge material over the ridge and fixing on either side (a wrap-over ridge). Both types of ridge can be formed either flush with the main surface of the thatch or raised from the surface of the thatch with an additional course of material (the block) in which ornamental shapes can be cut.
